Arts and crafts can be fun, but we don’t recommend them for your kitchen cabinets. Custom refacing saved this kitchen from being ripped out.

Who:  A pharmaceutical executive and his family

Where:  Chester, NJ

The Challenge:  The family just moved into this new home, which boasted modern details, high ceilings, and an open floor plan. Although the new owners loved the house, the kitchen cabinets were a mess. The previous residents attempted a faux finish and glued decorative tiles onto the cabinet doors.

The new owners debated their options.  They considered replacing the cabinetry, but liked the countertops, which were newer.  Also, the cabinet boxes were excellent quality.  Finally, since they just moved in, they didn’t want the mess and stress of a total renovation.

The Solution: The perimeter cabinets were refaced with doors, side panels, and moldings that were all finished in a custom painted and glazed shade of taupe.  The island was refaced in a warm maple.  The coffee station area became a focal point with glass doors, and interiors finished to match the island.
